kwekwe- 5 unidentified men involved in an armed robbery stormed Petrol Trade Service Station in Kwekwe in the early hours of September 8, 2024, around 1:00 AM.
Midlands Provincial Policespokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko is however appealing for information regarding suspects whereabouts.
“The police are advising residents to avoid keeping large sums of cash at home and to utilize banking services for secure storage.
“if there is anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspects or related details is urged to contact the local police immediately.” Mahoko said.
According to Police reports, security guards Enos Nyarenda, (65) and Johnson Maura, (56), were on duty when the armed men, brandishing a pistol, confronted them. One suspect reportedly assaulted Maura and the remaining four forcefully entered the guard room, where they restrained the guards by tying their hands and legs.
One of the suspects kept the guards under control, the other four stormed the service station’s offices. They successfully forced open the main entrance door, blew up a safe, and stole US$799 in cash. In addition, the robbers took various groceries and a movable safe from the station’s kiosk. The total value of the stolen items is estimated at US$1,081.
In a separate incident on September 7, 2024, police are seeking information on three men connected to a robbery in Mbizo 4, Kwekwe. The victim, Kudakwashe Chuchu, 26, was awakened by loud banging on his door.
Observing through a window, he saw the suspects dressed in black monkey hats and sunglasses,armed with machetes. The robbers used their weapons to break into Chuchu’s home, demanded cash, and left with US$730 from his wardrobe. The suspects then fled the scene.
